Funnily enough, I used to HATE wearing lipstick. I didn’t like the feel of it on my lips at all, and I absolutely hated the way it looked on me. In the past five years, I’ve definitely warmed up to it though. I don’t wear it every day, and quite frankly – it’s a beauty product I could live without, but I love to play around with it every now and then.
Because I have quite a few of them, I’ll only write about lipsticks in this post. I’ll save my lip glosses for another post.
Let’s dive in and get to it!
This is at the top, because this is my favourite out of them all. In my opinion, this is the best matte lipstick I’ve ever tried. It doesn’t dry up my lips, and it barely transfers. I always let it settle for about 30 seconds after application to be safe, and it does not budge. I absolutely love this!
This is the only Colourpop product I have, and I wish I had more! I thought this shade would be a lighter nude on me, but it comes out quite dark. Not complaining though, because I’ve had several compliments on it when I wear it out. This lipstick stays on for hours! But please know that it is a little drying – but that’s how most matte liquid lipsticks are.
My favourite red lipstick! I can see why this is a staple for so many people – this red looks great on any skin tone. My only bone to pick with this one though, is that it’s really drying. If I apply the tiniest amount of lip balm or Vaseline before applying this lipstick – problem solved. It also transfers a little bit – but most lipsticks I have are transferable anyway. The only one I have that doesn’t is my MAC Velvet Teddy (above).
The newest addition to my collection! If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll already know about this one. This is the only coral shade I have, and I really need more! This doesn’t dry my lips out as much as other lippies I own, and it looks stunning. It’s in my top five for sure.
I just realised that NYX don’t actually refer to this product as being an actual ‘lipstick’, but for the sake of this post I’ll include it anyway.
I got this from Target a while ago. It’s old enough that I should probably throw it out, but it’s too good!!This was the first decent red lipstick I purchased, and to this day, it’s still one of my favourites. It’s a nice, deep red, and feels so creamy on the lips. Lasts for ages too!
I own this lipstick in three different shades – Berry, Chihuahua, and Melted Sugar. That’s how much I love it!
I’ll start with the shade Chihuahua, as it’s my favourite of the three. It’s super pigmented and lasts for ages. It’s also quite a flattering colour.
Second favourite is Berry. As you’ve probably already deduced, it’s a berry shade! I sometimes find that the darker liquid lipsticks can be rather patchy – this isn’t one of them though. Long lasting and absolutely gorgeous. But it does transfer, and it’s noticeable. Beware of lipstick on the teeth and the chin! (I am the worst offender when it comes to getting lipstick on my chin)
Last is Melted Sugar, and that’s because it’s my least favourite. Like the rest, the formula is great – long lasting, pigmented, not at all patchy. I think I just misjudged how pale it is on me. It’s so pale on me that I look sort of deceased when I applied it for the first time. But it really does come in handy when I apply a dark nude lipstick that’s too dark. It does a stellar job lightening other shades. Also very good to apply in the centre of your lips for a fuller look.
Overall, I really adore these lipsticks, and I must purchase more. Keen to try the Melted Matte lipsticks as well.
This one is also a ‘berry’ shade, but to me it’s just purple. My Melted liquid lippie is more of a true berry. Colour aside, this is a nice lipstick. Once applied, it really stays in place. Perfect for lining your lips as well. The only fault I have with this is that it makes my lips feel drier than the Sahara desert.
I wonder if the Viva La Diva lipsticks are worth trying…?
I couldn’t find this anywhere either… I think Rimmel must have discontinued this, because it is NOWHERE to be found online. If you find it, let me know!
*Update: I did find it, but it’s out of stock. And it doesn’t show the shade I own – but that’s the product, and I’ve linked it above. *
This was the first matte lipstick I ever purchased, and I really liked it! Great, bold colour, and so smooth to apply. Not too drying either! The only thing is that you’ll need to re-apply it after eating. It’s not food-friendly 🙁
Another purchase of mine when I went to Hawaii. At the time I think they had just opened or were about to open Sephora in Australia. But that didn’t stop me from going nuts on holiday!
I actually have no idea what shade I purchased. I know what you’re thinking, how could you not know what colour you got? It doesn’t actually have a specific number or name for the shade I got, which I find to be a bit weird. It has the code ‘5119B’ but I think that’s just a manufacturing or item code. Based on the link above, I’m fairly certain I have the shade ‘Burgundy Spirit’. But I’ll never know for sure, as there’s no flipping number or colour on it! That aside though, it’s a work of art. So creamy and lightweight. Also doesn’t smudge as easily as other creamy lipsticks.
Last, but certainly not least! I got this in a sample box that I get from Mecca a few times throughout the year, as part of their loyalty reward program. My one is much smaller than the actual product, but it’s soooo cute and tiny!
I’m not actually sure what a velvet lipstick is meant to be like. Is it meant to be almost matte, or more creamy? Right in between, perhaps? I don’t know. This product feels rather wet in the middle of my lips, even after 2 hours of wear. But it’s a lovely colour – a deep, cherry red. So alluring.
So this is where I’ll end it for my lipsticks. I’ll pop another post up in a few weeks time on my lip glosses.
What’s in your lipstick arsenal?
